The ceremony will take place on Friday 20^th April at the luxurious Lancaster London hotel. Best of luck to all those who have been shortlisted.

Smoking is the UK’s number one cause of avoidable premature death, linked to a range of serious and often fatal conditions.

Here’s the good news: the health benefits begin almost as soon as you quit. After…

• The risk of developing lung cancer, other cancers, heart attack, stroke and chronic lung disease is reduced – the sooner you stop smoking, the sooner your risk starts going down
• Stopping smoking at any age increases your life expectancy, provided that you stop before the onset of serious disease. Even if you have developed a disease, you can benefit from stopping as your body will be under less strain.
• A smoker who has suffered from a heart attack can halve the risk of a second heart attack by stopping smoking
• Ten years after quitting smoking an ex-smoker’s risk of lung cancer is reduced by 30 to 50 per cent compared with that of a continuing smoker
• Smokers who stop before the age of 35 have a life expectancy not significantly different from that of a non-smoker
• But it’s never too late. Smokers who give up smoking between 65 and 74 years of age have a better life expectancy beyond 75 than those who continue to smoke

We are delighted to announce that Dr Stephen Dodd, who has been with us for just over 6 months has been shortlisted in the Conservative Ceramic Smile category at the 2012 Smile Awards. The entry requires him to show how he has transformed a patient’s smile through minimal treatment on a couple of teeth . The Smile Awards are the only dental awards in the UK to reward clinical excellence in dental and facial aesthetics. As a team we are very proud that Stephen has been recognised for his clinical skills.

The ceremony will take place on Friday 23rd March 2012 at the Five star Landmark Hotel, a Grande Dame hotel in central London.

We have been shortlisted at the Private Dentistry Awards in the patient care category and our Practice Manager Gayna Horridge has been shortlisted in the outstanding individual category.

Also our fabulous technician Steve from Stephen Lander Dental Designs has been shortlisted in the Best Dental Laboratory Category.

Colgate Oral health month, in partnership with the British Dental Association is a leading UK campaign for promotion of improved oral health.  The theme for the 2011 campaign is “The importance of a good oral care regime for a healthy mouth”, with the following messages:

• Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, last thing at night and on one other occasion.
• Just spit after brushing, rinsing washes the fluoride away.
• Avoid tooth brushing straight after acidic food or drinks to help prevent enamel erosion.
• Avoid sugary snacks and drinks between meals.
• Visit the dentist regularly.

Dr Stephen Dodd graduated from the University of Manchester and since then has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in order to provide the highest quality general and cosmetic dentistry.

In 2009 he embarked on a three-year long masters degree in Restorative Cosmetic Dentistry and the same year successfully completed examinations set by the Royal College Of Surgeons and was awarded with the prestigious Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties.

Dr Dodd being a full member of the British Academy Of Cosmetic Dentistry has a passion for minimally invasive cosmetic dentistry and can offer many options to achieve a natural looking healthy smile.

Dr Dodd has a particular interest in short term orthodontics, and is a certified practitioner of ‘Invisalign’ invisible braces, ‘Six Month smiles’ and the ‘Inman Aligner.’ To complement Dr Dodd’s cosmetic dentistry, he also performs wrinkle relaxing injections and dermal fillers.

Following dental hypnosis training at the University Of Salford, Dr Dodd has acted as a referral base to be able to treat anxious and nervous patients under hypnosis.
