3 Of Our Team Nominated For Awards!

Cosmetic Dentist

We are delighted to announce that three of our team have been selected as finalists for the Dental Awards 2011, and that our National Smile Month Event has also been shortlisted for recognition at the same awards in London later this year.

Michael

Our head dentist Dr Michael Cahill qualified from Bristol University in 1985 and joined the practice on Higher Bridge Street in 1989.  Since then, he and the team have constantly strived to improve and develop the service, and are proud to offer the ultimate in dental care. Michael is a finalist in the category of  Dentist of the Year, and his team believe that is due to the enormous enthusiasm that he pours into his job which is reflected in the quality of the work he produces to the delight of his patients.

Gayna

Gayna Horridge, the Practice Manager is a finalist in the category of Practice Manager of the Year.  She has been with the practice for 13 years, initially as a Dental Nurse.  She since gained qualifications in Oral Health Education, Radiography, Assisting with Conscious Sedation and achieved a distinction in the Diploma in Practice Management in 2006.  She steers the practice with a firm hand on the rudder and is tireless in her mission to improve and develop her personal professional skills and and the services of the practice.

Barbara

Last but not least, finalist for award of Receptionist of the Year, is the first line of contact with the practice, Barbara Whittaker.  Barbara has been with the practice for 10 years after 27 years working in the School Meals Service.  Barbara’s naturally warm and welcoming personality endears her to the patients and staff alike, who are all rooting for the glamorous grandmother at the Gala dinner in May.  Barbara said, “I am overwhelmed to be shortlisted as a finalist, that in itself is amazing, I am really touched to be thought of in that way.  Of course I would be over the moon to win the category, but really, I am so happy to be a finalist.”

Also, the practice’s support of Smile Month in 2010 has been recognized by being shortlisted for Best National Smile Month Event.  The national slogan was “Teeth for Life”.  The team manned a stall in the Market Hall in Bolton and were available to offer free dental advice to Bolton shoppers.

The acclaimed Dentistry Awards are held annually to celebrate the achievements made by professionals in the dental field. The awards ceremony takes place in May, at a glittering black tie gala dinner at the luxurious Lancaster London Hotel and promises to be a fantastic night of cocktails and dancing!

We now have an arrangement with Adam who owns the garage at the back of the practice which allows us the use of 3 car parking spaces for our patients. We must point out that:

  • Spaces are on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Patients must show their appointment card as proof of their visit to Adam at the garage

After analyzing the results of our last Patient Survey, patient car parking space was the most popular suggestion, so we hope this makes a difference for you.

The Journey of The Reception Refurbishment

As a long standing patient of Michael and his team, ‘Ive frequently moulded myself into the green sofas whilst waiting for my 6 monthly oral m.o.t., and drifted into designer mode – thinking how I’d love to be let loose with my Ideas in the practice– I’d have an absolute ball!

One afternoon, last August, after my routine check up, Michael asked me to think about how I would change the practice, given the opportunity, and of course the cost involved – I was so delighted, and of course thrilled!

Some weeks later, I returned to the green sofa – notepad in hand, I was buzzing with Ideas, and it wasn’t long before my scribbling became sketches and swatches. I wanted to create a modern reception yet appreciated how important a relaxing ambience was, and had to give lighting and colour serious consideration. After trawling through numerous swatches, samples and lighting brochures in my Workshop, it wasn’t long before I presented my Ideas to Michael, Fiona and their team. It was great to work with a family united on ideas and brimming with excitement.

Once designs were confirmed, I gathered my team of enthusiastic tradesmen to work our magic – even Michael’s uncle Dave was roped in with re-plastering. It was crucial that the practice had to remain open with as little disruption as possible – a tall order, but it was wonderful how everyone worked together – even during the winter temperatures of -9!
Michael and his team were brilliant – they concentrated on delivering their usual first class service, leaving me to strategically directed the make-over – juggling my cabinet maker with my builder and my electrician with my decorator – all of us working against the clock to ensure the project would be complete and ready for the first patient as the practice doors re-opened for business in 2011.

We did it – with my carpet fitter working over the Christmas break to fix the last piece of the jigsaw. We had made it happen!

I called into the practice on 4th January to assist Michael with the positioning of his numerous worthy certificates & awards. Barbara was brimming with pride behind her new home, a trendy beat was playing in the background, and the crystals of the modern chandeliers sparkled against the backdrop of the newly plastered ceilings – wow – my transformation was complete.

It has been an absolute pleasure to turn my Ideas into reality for Michael and his team at Cahill’s Dental Practice, and I do hope you enjoy your next visit to our new & inviting reception.

Another Award For Cahill Dental!

Cahill Dental Best EmployerWe are pleased to anounce that Cahill Dental Practice have won another award, this time we have scooped ‘Best Employer 2010′ at the glitzy Private Dentistry Awards ceremony at London’s Intercontinental Hotel on Park Lane.

The Private Dentistry Awards is an event held annually and celebrates excellence in the field of dentistry. We were nominated for several categories, one of which being ‘best team’ which we won in 2009. The team are delighted that Michael has been recognized for not only his professional capabilities, but also his capacity as a supportive and compassionate employer.  The qualities that marked Michael out from the other shortlisted employers included his passion for continuing education, his commitment to each team member as an individual, and his zest for team building through the practice’s active social calendar!

Speaking after the awards, Michael said, “Wow! How chuffed am I?  At the presentation the compere read out testimonials from the team of the winning employer and I was in awe of all the lovely things that were being said, and was absolutely bowled over when they announced my name as the winner!  As I said in my acceptance speech, which was sadly lacking as I really didn’t expect to win, I thought I was just a grumpy old man from Wigan!”
